Her home town of Los Angeles, California provided a rich mix of cultures that inspired her unique and eclectic brand, “The GothPinupChola”. Movies like “The Lambada” and TV shows like “Xuxa” gave Sio the spark that led her to be the professional performer she is today. She recalls her tiny ruffled jean skirt while swishing her hips to “Llorando se Fue." This was the beginning of an exciting career!
From ages 9-11 she thought she’d give acting a shot working in many shows and films as an extra, including but not limited to: The Astronauts Wife, Being John Malkovich, and Stewart Little. That only reinforced dancing. . . at the time.
Sio has been dancing her whole life but it wasn’t until her teenage years that she discovered the Hondurian dance, punta. Being half Salvadorian and Mexican herself, Central America has influenced her deeply. This type of dancing released her body movements and gave her a craving to learn more. By early adulthood she started polishing her Latin dance technique. Starting with Salsa and moving into bachata, merengue, cha cha, cumbia, cumbia sonidera, guaracha, etc.
While simultaneously working in the service industry for 13 years Sio knew she wanted more than a career - she wanted something that would fulfill her soul. Shortly after deciding she wanted something more satisfying she was invited to a burlesque show. There was no turning back. Burlesque provided a specific form of entertainment unlike any other she had performed or witnessed on a stage before. The freedom, the nudity, the sparkle!
Since the beginning of this journey (7 years ago this February) she has reached many goals such as: Working with the top productions and producers in Chicago. She has produced Latinesque and Telenovela Cabaret as well as “Cats Against Cat Calling,” a show for women’s liberation and a co-production for the Wicker Park chamber of commerce. She’s performed alongside some of the biggest names in the industry. She’s done festivals, plays, go-go dancing, and silent theater both in front and behind the scenes. She’s taken her pasties to cities all over the United States, and has popped the international bubble by performing virtually for Argentinian audiences during a pandemic year.
and performing in Chicago, IL. Artistic expression has always been a part of Vivi’s life, starting at a young age with drawing and painting. That expression continued to develop in secondary school and led to a BFA in Communication Design. With these skill-sets in commercial art, Vivi began a career in Advertising and Graphic Design. During her career advancement, Vivi became a student of live performance and entered the Chicago Burlesque scene. Over the course of 8 years Vivi has been able to cultivate a classic, humorous and sultry persona that harkens back to the vixens of the 1950’s and 1960s - all while continuing to advance her commercial art career and take on new artistic endeavors. The idea of expression is very important to Ms. Valens,
